    Falsified seismic-damper quality data

In October 2018, KYB disclosed that quality and inspection data for some earthquake-resistance dampers had been falsified from at least 2003. The dampers had been installed in more than 70 government and municipal buildings and other prominent facilities in Japan, including structures associated with Tokyo infrastructure and the 2020 Olympic preparations. Faulty Japanese seismic dampers were also exported to Taiwan. The disclosure resulted in inspections, replacement or remedial activity, and substantial reputational and compliance concerns.
