Gulf War oil-well fires and environmental damage
More than 700 Kuwaiti oil wells were deliberately ignited during the Iraqi withdrawal from Kuwait. The fires caused extensive damage to KOC's infrastructure and severe long-term environmental contamination. KOC was a principal affected operator rather than the party responsible for setting the fires.
