    License challenge and media-concentration dispute

San Joaquin Communications Corporation challenged renewal of the station’s license, arguing that McClatchy’s simultaneous ownership of The Fresno Bee, KMJ radio, and KMJ-TV created excessive concentration of local media power. The Justice Department and community organizations also raised regulatory or public-interest concerns. The dispute concluded with McClatchy’s sale of the station rather than a finding that KSEE itself had committed misconduct.
