Emergency Alert System intrusion
An unauthorized user accessed KRTV’s Emergency Alert System encoder and broadcast a fabricated warning claiming that dead bodies were rising and attacking the living. KRTV quickly informed viewers that the message was false. The event highlighted inadequate security controls around broadcast alert equipment and was followed by FCC guidance on firewalls and password management.
