Toshiba–Kongsberg export-control scandal
A Toshiba subsidiary and Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk were associated with the transfer of restricted machine-tool and numerical-control technology to the Soviet Union. The equipment could be used to manufacture quieter submarine propellers, contrary to CoCom export restrictions. The controversy triggered a political crisis, corporate breakup, and the continuation of the defence business under Norsk Forsvarsteknologi.
