Kolon TissueGene was founded in June 1999. In June 2000, it signed a license agreement with Kolon Life Science. In October 2001, it secured a US patent related to TG-C technology. In September 2004, it obtained a US patent related to TG-C (USP 6,797,703). In August 2005, it was selected as a National Project by the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. In December 2006, it received clearance for a US Phase I clinical trial. In April 2009, it completed administration of patients for the US Phase I trial. In November 2010, it obtained clearance for a US Phase II clinical trial. In October 2012, it completed administration of patients for the US Phase II trial. In May 2015, it obtained clearance for a US Phase III clinical trial (SPA). In November 2015, it was appointed as a Global Innovative Biotherapeutics Technology Development Research Center. In May 2016, it received equity investment from K-EXIM Bank. In November 2016, a sublicense agreement was made between Kolon Life Science and Japanese Mitsubishi Tanabe. In April 2017, it secured AA Grade from Technology Assessment by NICE. In November 2017, it was listed on the KOSDAQ stock market in Korea. In March 2018, the company name was changed to Kolon TissueGene, Inc. In December 2021, it obtained clearance for a US Phase II clinical trial for hip osteoarthritis and resumed the TG-C Phase III clinical trial for knee osteoarthritis.
