Gendai article and NHK staged-footage dispute
NHK sued Kodansha over an article published in Gendai that alleged footage used in a 1997 NHK report on dynamite fishing in Indonesia had been staged. A Tokyo District Court initially ordered Kodansha to publish a retraction and pay damages. The appeal ended in a settlement requiring a partial retraction and no damages. Shūkan Gendai later continued examining the underlying controversy.
