    Fair Trading Act overcharge case

    The Commerce Commission filed 21 criminal charges alleging systemic breaches of the Fair Trading Act. The allegations concerned incorrect fees and interest calculations affecting home loans, credit cards and overdrafts over a period reaching back to 2002. Reporting identified more than 36,000 affected customers and more than NZ$7 million in alleged overcharges. Kiwibank pleaded guilty in July 2024.
