Destruction of Byron’s memoirs
John Murray, together with several of Lord Byron’s friends and literary executors, dismantled and burned the poet’s memoir manuscripts at the Albemarle Street office. They believed publication could damage Byron’s reputation. Thomas Moore reportedly opposed the destruction, and the manuscripts’ contents remain unknown.
