‘Two Hu Qing Yu Tangs’ trademark dispute and Ke's cordyceps lawsuit
In 2009, Hu Qing Yu Tang was sued by a consumer over false origin labeling of the 'Ke's Cordyceps sinensis' it sold; the court ultimately dismissed the consumer's claim. Subsequently, Hangzhou Hu Qing Yu Tang and a Shanghai company with the same name were involved in a long-running trademark dispute; the court ruled that the Shanghai party must stop the infringement and pay 300,000 yuan. The issue of protecting time-honored brands drew attention.
