Alleged animal-welfare violations at supplier farm
PETA reported untreated diseases and injuries among cows at a farm supplying Horizon and alleged animal abuse. Horizon ended its purchasing relationship with the supplier after the investigation.

Organic standards and pasture-access controversy
The Organic Consumers Association organized a boycott of Horizon Organic and Aurora Organic Dairy, while the Cornucopia Institute complained to the USDA about the amount of time cows supplying Horizon spent on pasture. PCC Natural Markets later discontinued Horizon products amid the controversy.
