Vegetable-oil dumping offence
Gardein pleaded guilty in British Columbia Provincial Court to unlawfully dumping vegetable oil in 2016 into a ditch on its property that led toward the Fraser River. The court imposed a fine of CAD 285,000, required improvements to the Richmond facility to prevent future spills, and added the company to the Environmental Offenders Registry.
