Child death after fall from open window
On 7 July 2019, an 18-month-old child died after falling through an open window on the eleventh deck while Freedom of the Seas was docked in San Juan. The child's parents later sued Royal Caribbean, alleging that the company had failed to secure the windows adequately. The child's grandfather pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in a related case and received three years of probation under a plea agreement.
