Undeclared horse meat in prepared meals
Testing found horse meat in Findus beef lasagne sold in the United Kingdom, France and Sweden, and in other French prepared meals. Some products contained substantial or predominantly horse-derived meat despite being labelled as beef. Findus withdrew affected products, apologized publicly and offered refunds. Authorities investigated the international supply chain and suspected fraudulent substitution.
