Environmental impact of integrated steelmaking
Erdemir’s coal- and blast-furnace-based integrated production has attracted environmental scrutiny because of its carbon intensity. Climate Trace estimated almost five million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from the plant in 2022. Erdemir has stated that it is pursuing movement toward net-zero emissions.
