Political investigation request involving Lorenzo Mendoza
Government-aligned members of Venezuela's National Assembly requested an investigation of Empresas Polar president Lorenzo Mendoza after state television aired a recorded conversation between Mendoza and economist Ricardo Hausmann. Officials alleged that the discussion about Venezuela's economic crisis and possible International Monetary Fund assistance reflected a conspiracy against the government. Mendoza accepted that the conversation was authentic but denied the political interpretation, while Hausmann also rejected the allegations.
