East Towne Mall parking-lot murders
On August 7, Alphonce Manning Jr. and Toni Schwenn were shot and killed in a vehicle in the mall's front parking lot. The case was initially unsolved and was later linked to serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin through his 1984 confession. Franklin was convicted in 1986 and received two life sentences.
