Axel Springer plans 50-100 editorial redundancies at the Telegraph

Axel Springer, the German media group that purchased the Telegraph for £575m earlier in 2026, is understood to be examining proposals that would make between 50 and 100 Telegraph journalists redundant, with a forthcoming consultation likely to propose cutting a significant proportion of editorial staff, possibly before Christmas. No redundancies have been announced to staff so far, and sources said the proposals call into question Axel Springer's earlier pledge to back an investment programme to grow and expand the Telegraph Media Group.
