Overview
Crnogorski Telekom, legally Crnogorski Telekom a.d. Podgorica, is a telecommunications operator headquartered in Podgorica and serving the Montenegrin market. It is described as Montenegro's largest telecommunications company and operates across both consumer and business communications. Its activities include mobile communications, fixed-line telephony, broadband internet, IPTV and other pay-TV services, information and communication technology solutions, and cloud services. The company's modern corporate history reflects the restructuring and consolidation of Montenegro's telecommunications sector. The former state-owned Postal and Telecommunications Company, commonly known as PTT, was divided in 1998 into Montenegro Post and Telekom Montenegro. Internet Crna Gora, established in 1997, was the country's first internet provider and operated within Telekom Montenegro. In 2005, Telekom Montenegro was acquired by Magyar Telekom and thereby became part of the wider Deutsche Telekom Group. The business subsequently introduced the T-Com and T-Mobile brands in Montenegro in 2006. A major organizational change took place in May 2009, when Crnogorski Telekom a.d., T-Mobile Crna Gora d.o.o., and Internet Crna Gora d.o.o. were merged into a single legal entity. In 2012, the separate T-Com and T-Mobile commercial brands were replaced by the unified T brand, bringing the company's principal products and services under a common market identity. In January 2017, Hrvatski Telekom acquired Magyar Telekom's entire stake in Crnogorski Telekom. Hrvatski Telekom is itself part of Deutsche Telekom's corporate group, preserving the company's connection with the German telecommunications group while placing the Montenegrin operator under Hrvatski Telekom's ownership structure. Crnogorski Telekom serves residential and business customers. Its mobile portfolio includes prepaid and postpaid services, while its fixed-network portfolio includes broadband delivered through fiber-to-the-home, hybrid access, and ADSL technologies. The operator has also migrated its fixed network infrastructure to an all-IP architecture, enabling services such as prepaid fixed broadband, marketed as an internet-on-click option. For households, it combines connectivity with television offerings; for corporate and institutional customers, it provides ICT and cloud services. The company reports more than 359,000 mobile customers and more than 107,000 fixed-line accounts, while its roaming services extend to more than 140 countries through arrangements with almost 300 mobile operators.
History
Crnogorski Telekom's institutional roots lie in the restructuring of Montenegro's state telecommunications system. Internet Crna Gora was founded in 1997 and operated within Telekom Montenegro as the country's first internet provider. In 1998, the state-owned Postal and Telecommunications Company, commonly referred to as PTT, was divided into two successor businesses: Montenegro Post and Telekom Montenegro. This separation established the corporate foundation from which the modern telecommunications operator developed. In 2005, Telekom Montenegro was acquired by Magyar Telekom. The transaction brought the company into Deutsche Telekom Group through Magyar Telekom's ownership structure and connected the Montenegrin business with a larger Central and Southeastern European telecommunications network. The operator expanded and clarified its commercial identity in 2006 by launching the T-Com and T-Mobile brands in Montenegro, representing its fixed and mobile activities through internationally recognizable Deutsche Telekom brand architecture. The company underwent further legal and organizational consolidation in May 2009. Crnogorski Telekom a.d., T-Mobile Crna Gora d.o.o., and Internet Crna Gora d.o.o. were merged into a single legal entity. The merger brought the principal fixed, mobile, and internet operations together and simplified the corporate structure through which services were delivered in Montenegro. A subsequent brand strategy change occurred in 2012. The T-Com and T-Mobile brands were withdrawn in favor of the unified T brand. This created a single commercial identity for the operator's portfolio rather than maintaining separate fixed and mobile brands. The company continued to serve both residential and business customers across a broad set of communications and technology categories. In January 2017, Hrvatski Telekom bought Magyar Telekom's complete stake in Crnogorski Telekom. Hrvatski Telekom is part of Deutsche Telekom Group, and Deutsche Telekom holds a controlling interest in Hrvatski Telekom. The transaction therefore changed the immediate ownership route while retaining the operator's place within the wider Deutsche Telekom corporate family. Crnogorski Telekom's operating scope includes mobile and fixed-line communications, internet access, IPTV and pay television, business ICT, and cloud services. Mobile customers can use prepaid and postpaid tariffs. Fixed broadband has been offered through fiber-to-the-home, hybrid access, and ADSL technologies. The fixed network has been converted to all-IP technology, supporting services such as prepaid fixed broadband, known as an internet-on-click option. The company also provides roaming through relationships covering more than 140 countries and almost 300 mobile operators. Its reported customer base includes more than 359,000 mobile customers and more than 107,000 fixed-line accounts.
