Arson attack and destruction
On 19 September 2010, roughly 40 masked individuals reportedly assaulted the guards and burned the park. The incident was viewed by human-rights groups as part of increasing Islamist pressure against Gaza establishments considered insufficiently conservative. The attackers were not immediately identified, and Hamas denied involvement while announcing an investigation.
