    Manili massacre

On June 19, 1971, Muslim residents gathered in a mosque in Manili, Carmen, reportedly for a peace meeting with Christian groups. Armed men suspected of belonging to the Ilaga militant group opened fire, killing approximately 70 to 79 people, including women and children. The incident became a major symbol of the communal violence that preceded the Moro conflict.
