Nepotism criticism involving family casting and career opportunities
Media commentators accused Francis Ford Coppola of nepotism because relatives appeared in or benefited from opportunities connected to his films. Sofia Coppola’s casting in The Godfather Part III drew particular attention, while Nicolas Cage and Jason Schwartzman were also discussed in relation to family assistance. The debate became part of the family’s public history, although several members subsequently established independent careers.
