Robert Mapplethorpe obscenity trial
The CAC and director Dennis Barrie faced criminal obscenity charges over seven photographs in Robert Mapplethorpe’s The Perfect Moment exhibition. The case became a national debate over artistic freedom, museum governance, public funding, and obscenity law. A Cincinnati jury acquitted both defendants.
