    Barthel embezzlement case

After an unauthorized check was discovered, an audit identified irregularities involving CPH general manager Martin C. Barthel and his son. Barthel was later indicted and admitted that he had embezzled approximately $50,000 over a period of years. The case received coverage in the publishing trade press and contributed to subsequent changes in LCMS and CPH incorporation and governance.
