Bribery during the liquidation process
Company directors bribed senior state officials in an effort to obtain permission to manage the company's liquidation themselves rather than have it supervised by the revolutionary government. Once exposed, the affair became connected to the prosecution and execution of prominent Montagnard deputies and intensified the political crisis surrounding the revolutionary leadership.
