2012 content-regulation controversy and broadcast ban

Indian authorities imposed a ten-day broadcasting prohibition after reviewing two programs and finding that their dialogue and visual material violated provisions of the Cable Television Networks Rules, 1994. Comedy Central apologized and called the broadcasts an unintentional error. Its court challenge did not prevent the blackout. The case also generated wider criticism about the scope of government censorship and the use of broad standards such as decency and public morality.
