Spoofing and the 2010 flash crash

Trader Navinder Singh Sarao was associated with the use of spoofing techniques involving large E-mini S&P 500 futures orders submitted through CME Globex. Orders were repeatedly modified or cancelled, and the episode became part of investigations into the May 2010 flash crash and the adequacy of automated-market safeguards. CME Globex halted trading automatically during the event, while other venues did not respond identically, contributing to calls for coordinated cross-market controls.
