Controversy over the General Motors bus contract
The proposed replacement of Cleveland streetcars with General Motors buses led to allegations of political influence. Complaints were made to the FBI after the mayor and councilors were seen in new General Motors cars, and Mayor Ray T. Miller reportedly received a car shortly after General Motors won the bus contract. The FBI declined to investigate, citing the public prominence of the individuals involved. National City Lines did not own Cleveland's system, so the episode should not be presented as a direct National City Lines acquisition.
