2012
Panorama and Australian Financial Review allegations
BBC Panorama and Australian Financial Review reports alleged that NDS personnel had used or supported hacking to damage competing pay-TV platforms in the United Kingdom and Australia. NDS and News Corporation strongly rejected the allegations, which led to calls for regulatory or police review.
2008
EchoStar security litigation
EchoStar sued NDS over alleged piracy and compromise of security information connected with the Dish Network platform. NDS denied the allegations. A California jury found violations of certain communications and state-law provisions and awarded limited damages; subsequent appellate proceedings recognized NDS as the prevailing party on the principal compromise theory, and the matter concluded with payment of a remaining judgment balance in 2012.
2002
Canal Plus MediaGuard dispute
Groupe Canal Plus accused NDS of extracting code from MediaGuard smart cards and leaking it online. Canal Plus filed a multibillion-dollar lawsuit and later dropped the action. NDS denied wrongdoing.
1996
Israeli tax investigation
Israeli authorities investigated alleged tax irregularities involving NDS. The allegations were not proven, but the company later paid a reported US$3 million settlement to close the matter.
