    Honeymead and Richards Oil spill

Operations associated with the Honeymead Products Company soybean-oil plant and the Richards Oil Plant were involved in a spill of crude soybean oil, processed salad oil, and petroleum. The pollution entered the Blue Earth River and other waterways and ultimately reached the Mississippi River, causing wildlife deaths and habitat destruction. Public outrage contributed to Minnesota water-protection legislation and the creation of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in 1967.
