Parabe platform security confrontation
Villagers occupied Chevron's Parabe oil platform while alleging that company operations had contaminated their land. Chevron provided helicopter transportation for Nigerian Navy and Mobile Police personnel after requesting government protection. Two protesters were killed and 11 were wounded after the security forces arrived. The incident prompted sustained criticism of Chevron's security arrangements and its relationship with Nigerian authorities.
