Fireworks television commercial banned
Charlie's ran a commercial depicting cartoon children using fireworks in hazardous ways, including placing fireworks between their teeth and shooting rockets at one another. Following complaints, the Television Commercials Approval Bureau banned the advertisement in New Zealand. Fire-service officials criticized the depiction as potentially glorifying behavior that could cause serious injury. Charlie's marketing manager said the commercial was not intended to condone dangerous conduct, while Marc Ellis questioned the consistency of the advertising-approval process because the advertisement had initially been certified.
