Overview
Team Internet Group PLC, formerly CentralNic Group PLC, is a British multinational internet services holding company headquartered in London. The group operates through two broad business areas: Online Marketing and Online Presence. Its activities span digital advertising, traffic monetization, domain-related advertising, product comparison, domain registration, domain registry operations, web hosting, brand protection, domain management and related internet infrastructure services. The business traces its origins to CentralNic, founded by Stephen Dyer in 2000 as a successor to NomiNation, an earlier company founded by Dyer in 1995. CentralNic initially developed around domain-name registry and related internet-address services, including the operation and commercialization of domain extensions and second-level domains. Over time, the company expanded from registry activities into retail domain registration, hosting, corporate domain management and brand-protection services through a series of acquisitions. CentralNic became a publicly traded company in 2013, joining the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange. Its acquisition-led expansion accelerated from 2014 onward, adding domain registrars, reseller platforms, hosting businesses, domain extensions and online advertising assets. Important additions included DomiNIC, Internet.BS, Instra, the Slovak .sk country-code domain business, KeyDrive Group, GlobeHosting, TPP Wholesale, Hexonet, Ideegeo and Team Internet. The acquisition of Team Internet in 2019 strengthened the group's Online Marketing division and broadened its exposure to digital advertising, traffic commerce and domain monetization. The company continued diversifying in the 2020s. It acquired the Zeropark and Voluum businesses from Codewise, adding performance-marketing and traffic-management capabilities, and later purchased Safebrands, a French registrar focused in part on brand protection. In 2022, it acquired Intellectual Property Management Co. and a portfolio of revenue-generating niche websites, extending its domain-management and content-related assets. In September 2023, CentralNic announced that the group had been rebranded as Team Internet Group. The change reflected the growing importance of the former Team Internet online-marketing business alongside the group's established domain and online-presence operations. The publicly traded company remained an AIM-listed internet services group, with activities conducted through a portfolio of specialist subsidiaries and brands.
History
CentralNic was founded by Stephen Dyer in 2000 as a successor to NomiNation, which Dyer had established in 1995. The company developed as an internet infrastructure and domain-services business, focusing on the registration, administration and commercialization of domain names and domain extensions. Its registry operations included country-code and generic top-level domain services, as well as private subdomain registry arrangements. A major stage of expansion began after the company became publicly listed. In August 2013, CentralNic announced its intention to float on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange, and its shares began trading there in September. The listing provided a platform for the company to pursue acquisitions and build a broader portfolio of internet businesses. In early 2014, CentralNic acquired DomiNIC GmbH. Later that year it announced the purchase of Internet.BS, a retail domain registrar, for US$7.5 million. In 2015 it acquired Instra Corp, an international domain-name registrar serving retail and corporate customers. These transactions expanded CentralNic beyond registry infrastructure into customer-facing registration and management services. The company continued to add domain assets and businesses. In 2018 it acquired the Slovak country-code domain business associated with .sk in a transaction valued at €26 million. That year it also announced a reverse takeover and merger involving KeyDrive Group, a transaction described under the rules governing companies traded on AIM. In September 2018, CentralNic acquired GlobeHosting, a registrar and hosting provider with a focus on Romania and Brazil. The acquisition program accelerated in 2019. CentralNic announced an agreement to acquire TPP Wholesale, an Australian and New Zealand domain and hosting reseller business, for consideration reported at A$24 million. It subsequently acquired Hexonet Group, an international domain-reseller platform, for consideration of up to €10 million, and Ideegeo Group, an international domain retailer, for consideration of up to NZ$5.2 million. In November, the group acquired Team Internet from Matomy Media for reported consideration of US$48 million. Team Internet brought online-marketing assets and increased the group's exposure to digital advertising, traffic commerce and domain monetization. In 2020, CentralNic announced the acquisition of the Zeropark and Voluum businesses from Codewise. The transaction was completed in November and broadened the group's performance-marketing and traffic-management capabilities. In January 2021, it acquired Safebrands, a French registrar and brand-protection provider, for reported consideration of US$4.4 million. The company continued its expansion in 2022. In October it acquired Intellectual Property Management Co. Inc., a California-based domain-name management business, for reported consideration of US$7.6 million. In December, it announced the acquisition of a portfolio of revenue-generating niche websites from multiple sellers for reported cash consideration of US$5.2 million. On 4 September 2023, the group announced that CentralNic Group PLC had been rebranded as Team Internet Group. The new identity reflected the strategic importance of the Online Marketing business while preserving the group's Online Presence operations, including domain registration, registry, hosting and brand-management services. Team Internet Group remained an AIM-listed British internet-services holding company with a multinational customer and subsidiary base.
