    The July 2013 runaway crude-oil train derailment in Lac-Mégantic occurred under Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway, before CMQ was formed. The disaster killed 47 people and contributed directly to the predecessor’s bankruptcy and the later creation of CMQ. CMQ was not the operator at the time of the accident.
