Environmental controversy surrounding coal and industrial emissions
Cengiz Holding’s energy and metals interests have attracted environmental criticism. Climate Trace estimated that the half-owned Cenal coal-fired power plant emitted more than seven million tonnes of greenhouse gases in 2022, and Urgewald included the plant in its Global Coal Exit List. The group has separately said that emissions from its aluminium production units in Seydişehir are substantially below European Union standards.
