Eséka train disaster and safety investigation
On 21 October 2016, a Camrail passenger train derailed near Eséka while traveling from Yaoundé to Douala. The crash killed 79 people and injured nearly 600. The reported investigation examined excessive speed, the condition of the fleet, and the state of rolling stock. The government investigated Camrail, and relatives of deceased passengers sued the company.
