Obscenity proceedings involving Calder titles
Calder published controversial works including Alexander Trocchi's Cain's Book and Hubert Selby's Last Exit to Brooklyn. Cain's Book was involved in a minor obscenity case, while Last Exit to Brooklyn prompted a private prosecution and later proceedings at the Old Bailey. An appeal led by John Mortimer ultimately succeeded.
