Miller v. C.H. Robinson Worldwide
The case arose after a contracted truck driver collision left Allen Miller quadriplegic. The dispute concerned whether a freight broker could face liability for negligent selection of a motor carrier and whether federal transportation law preempted the claim. An appellate court recognized a safety-related exception to preemption, the Supreme Court declined to hear the case in 2022, and the matter was ultimately settled.
