Immigration detention and the Biennale controversy
Transfield Services' contracts to manage detention facilities on Nauru and Manus Island drew sustained criticism from refugee advocates. The dispute expanded into a cultural boycott of the Biennale of Sydney because of sponsorship links to Transfield-related interests. The campaign resulted in the resignation of the sponsorship-linked chairman and the end of the sponsorship relationship.
