Russian import ban and political controversy
Russia banned imports of Georgian mineral waters, officially citing safety concerns. Georgian authorities and the company regarded the measure as politically connected to tensions between Russia and Georgia. The ban materially disrupted Borjomi's Russian business until imports resumed in 2013.
