Bofors affair in India
Following a 1986 contract for 410 155 mm howitzers, Swedish Radio alleged that Bofors had paid illegal commissions worth approximately 600 million Indian rupees to influential Indian politicians and senior defense officials. The allegations became a major political controversy, damaged the reputation of the Rajiv Gandhi government, and contributed to its defeat in the 1989 election.
