Austria's FMA fines Bitpanda 70,000 euros under MiCA

    Fine or penalty

Austria's Financial Market Authority fined crypto platform Bitpanda 70,000 euros ($82,000) for violating the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, the regulator's first published final MiCA penalty. The FMA said Bitpanda failed to submit a crypto-asset white paper at least 20 working days before publication and distributed marketing communications that omitted mandatory disclosures. Bitpanda said the issues related only to timing and formal requirements, that customer funds and platform security were unaffected, and that it rectified the issues after notice from the FMA.

    Company response

    • Remediation — Bitpanda

The company said it rectified the issues after receiving notice from the FMA and opted for a swift, consensual conclusion of the proceedings.
