European court ruling on Big Mac trademark use
A European court found that McDonald's had not proven genuine use of the Big Mac trademark for poultry products or restaurant services in the relevant proceedings. The judgment did not remove protection for the Big Mac burger product itself. This was a legal dispute rather than a food-safety scandal.

Supermac's trademark dispute and initial EUIPO ruling
McDonald's challenged Irish fast-food chain Supermac's over trademark use and alleged consumer confusion in Europe. The EUIPO initially favored Supermac's, concluding that McDonald's evidence did not adequately establish certain claimed uses of the Big Mac mark. The decision was later overturned in part on appeal after additional evidence was submitted.
