Designation as an undesirable organization in Russia
Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office designated Bellona an undesirable organization after the foundation had ended its Russian activities. The designation restricts cooperation and creates legal risks for people and entities associated with the organization in Russia.

Alleged pollution at the Njord site
Bellona filed a police report concerning a reported release of hazardous chemicals and oil-based drilling fluids from a disposal well at the Njord site in the Norwegian Sea.

Prosecution of Alexander Nikitin
Bellona expert Alexander Nikitin was arrested by Russia’s Federal Security Service and charged with treason through espionage in connection with his contribution to research on Northern Fleet nuclear safety. Russia’s Supreme Court exonerated him in 2000.
