U.S. and Ukrainian sanctions
The United States designated BelAZ and its chief executive under Belarus-related sanctions in March 2023. Ukraine imposed sanctions on the company in May 2023.
2021
Sanctions over alleged repression of protesting workers
The European Union stated that BelAZ had threatened or intimidated workers who participated in strikes and peaceful protests after the 2020 Belarusian election, and alleged that company facilities and management supported the Belarusian regime. Canada and Switzerland also imposed measures.
Alleged sanctions-evasion shipping route
A joint journalistic investigation examined allegations that a Belarusian company controlled by a Lithuanian citizen was used to ship BelAZ trucks to Chile through Lithuania’s Klaipeda port after BelAZ was blacklisted by the European Union.
