The fall and execution of Ja'far ibn Yahya
Harun al-Rashid ordered Ja'far’s execution and moved against the wider Barmakid family. Later literature explained the event through a forbidden relationship involving Harun’s sister, but historians identify broader political causes, including court rivalry, the family’s wealth and military influence, and the handling of the rebel Yahya ibn Abd Allah al-Talibi.
