    Evident surveillance technology sales controversy

BBC and Dagbladet Information reporting alleged that BAE Systems Applied Intelligence had sold Evident, a mass-surveillance technology linked to acquired Danish company ETI/AS, to governments in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Morocco and Algeria. Critics including Campaign Against Arms Trade and Privacy International raised concerns that the technology’s interception, tracking, recognition and decryption capabilities could be used against human-rights defenders and political opponents. BAE Systems stated that its activities were conducted within applicable regulations and its responsible-trading principles.
