    Brandewyne libel-related damages case

A Kansas trial court ordered AuthorHouse to pay $240,000 in punitive damages and $230,000 in actual damages to Rebecca Brandewyne and her parents in connection with publication of a book by Brandewyne's former husband. The court also awarded $20,000 to each parent. Although the court acknowledged that the company's publishing model placed significant content responsibility on authors, it found that AuthorHouse had not acted after being informed that the book might contain libelous material.
