    Rizhao Pulp and Paper Mill Hit by Four Environmental Penalties in One Month Over Odor Nuisance

    Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp and Paper Co., Ltd. had a serious odor leak in August 2013; Rizhao residents complained strongly and the company publicly apologized. On March 2, March 24 and April 7, 2016, it was fined 100,000 yuan each for odor exceeding standards at the plant boundary; on April 12 it was fined 300,000 yuan again for odor exceeding standards due to a failure in the induced draft system of the alkali recovery boiler. In the same year, its technical modification project converting pulp to dissolving pulp was questioned as possibly adding pollution sources. Cumulative fines were 600,000 yuan; the company apologized and rectified.
