Asbestos-related liabilities and bankruptcy
Armstrong faced a large and growing number of asbestos personal-injury claims related to historical products and operations. The resulting liability uncertainty contributed to the company’s Chapter 11 filing in December 2000. Armstrong later established a settlement trust and emerged from bankruptcy under a plan intended to address current and future claims.
